This event was the Black Power salute

This salute took place at the 1968 olympics in mexico city

The people involved in this were tommie smith and John Carlos

After the two black olympic runners by the name of Tommie Smith and John Carlos finished the race they came out for the medal ceremoney they were dressed in black. they stood on the stage after the man put the medals around their neck they raised their hands balled in a fist to represent balck struggle.

The significance of this event was that they were representing the black peoples struggle all they had to do to make it. We went from picking cotton to standing on the grandest stage in the world recieveing a medal. everything they had on was incorporated with the struggle black beeds were representing everyone who was hung or lynched. They made a brave stand they were bowed and talked about but it was important and we will never forget it.

I think I would rate this a 6 because it was a powerful statement but it really do anything at first. It finally showed the world how we have been feeling all along. They got bowed from everybody in america but the blacks because they know what they were trying to say and they became famous for it.
